A Reminder!

This Saturday my publisher Walker Books in association with the Church of Ireland College of Education in Rathmines are presenting 'The Story in the Picture' on Sat 25th April in the College in Rathmines, 9.30am - 4.30pm.

Patrick Benson, Bruce Ingman and myself will be taking part. Whoo HOO!

Deirdre McDermott and Lizzie Spratt from Walker Books will tell all the secrets of Walker Books Design Department! Spilling the beans on how to make a picture book, and the nuts and bolts of making graphic novels.

Inspiration...

Check out this is a fantastic little documentary with Quentin Blake on Teachers TV. Lovely to have a peek inside another illustrators studio.

He takes us through the story, ideas and illustration techniques behind two of his own books, Clown and The Green Ship.

Clown is told entirely through pictures. Quentin shows us original doodles and storyboards, talking amongst other things about moods of colour and character inspiration.

I am always amazed how easy Quentin makes it look, he is so fast and immediate, something I aspire to!

Doodle Doodlers!

In the interest of promoting doodling; here is an owl doodled with left over ink from paint brush, and a pencil owl scribbled on my diary. I think the quote below the owl was an over heard conversation between my 4 and 3 year old. 'It's not a ..." "It's a burp!"
